USA Africa Dialogue Series - Re: For The Attention Of The Moderator

Chidi,

Here it is : The Secret Agent

And November is almost here...

You don't have to come crying or whining about these things to our Moderator; you realise of course that you can pass a fatwa on anyone who offends you?

I didn't know that it was all in reference to Oga Ikhide who is being so ably defended by his advocate Mwalimu Harrow. In my opinion Oga Ikhide is all the things that Mwalimu Harrow says he is.

My conclusion about innocuous words such as, "that body of thugs with PhDs" is that the doctors being referred to didn't take any Hippocratic Oath  along with being granted the Papa Doc certificate

 Remember these jokes:

 # "An elderly Jewish man who served his community as a religious teacher and butcher stood before a German Judge who was known for his anti-Semitic views. Throughout the proceedings he never called the defendant by his name but referred to him only as "Mr. Butcher".  When the hearing was over, the judge asked the old man, "Mr. Butcher, do you wish to add anything to your statement?"

"Yes Sir, replied the man, "I would like to emphasise that to humans I'm a teacher and only to beasts am I a butcher."

# " When a Nazi guard asked a Jewish Holocaust inmate why he prayed every day, the Jew replied, " I thank God every day that He did not make me like you."

Would you like Thor's hammer to descend on the bard for saying things like

"Adulterers in churches and pornography in the schools
You got gangsters in power and lawbreakers making rules"

Chidi, in your poetic anti-church diatribes you've said things that are a lot worse than all of the above. If you can't recollect, I'll remind you with some relevant quotations of poetic stuff from Chidi Anthony Opara himself.

Have you considered these: "And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire."

"And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell."

You know, sometimes I just feel like punching someone....

In any case this is a time for repentance and forgiveness.

Sincerely,

We Sweden

You're now petitioning our kind hearted Moderator Professor Falola as a servant of Ogun - the god of iron or Thor , ever ready with his hammer over a little bit of nothing....

C'mon Chidi the poet, some tolerance please! Grant both yourself and others some reasonable degree of poet-ic license and the right/ freedom to let off some pent up steam (emotion)!

What's wrong with immaculate conceptions such as "that body of thugs with PhDs"?

Or even that body of mugs filled with PhDs?

What's wrong with it raining cats and dogs?

You know that there's some very strong language to be found in the Bible, in Dr. Johnson and in Shakespeare too...

And dear Chidi, just in case someday you take part in the million dollar biblical quiz - and you the whiz are asked, "What is the shortest sentence in the Bible?"  (Please don't ask which Bible) but the shortest sentence in the so called "New" testamente is, "Jesus wept" – two words. The human Jesus wept and if those tears dried up or evaporated then they are still in circulation presently part of some great big cloud floating over Kaduna or ... (use your imagination). Yes, God is everywhere – even there....

And by the way, a happy new year to you too – Shana Tova it's the beginning of the year 5774 and May the year be sweet for all of us.....

Moderator Sir,

I have been wondering how some posts with expressions that fall far below the basic standard of decency in public discourse usually make it past the moderator's "hammer" in this tightly moderated forum. It could not have been a case of these expressions escaping the moderator's attention because they appear regularly, especially in "literary criticisms".

Instead of the moderator's 'hammer" descending on whole topics, I suggest that the "hammer" should rather descend on posts with expressions like; "that body of thugs with PhDs" (reference to University lecturers in Nigeria).

We can disagree and make our points without using expressions like the above.

Be well sir,

CAO.
