USA Africa Dialogue Series - FW: New Book on The Igbo Intellectuals

Dear All,

Please join me in congratulating our own Professor Gloria Chuku on the publication of her new book, The Igbo Intellectual Tradition: Creative Conflict in African and African Diaspora Thought (New York: Palgrave Macmillan, 2013). The book contains a rich harvest of the intellectual ideas and traditions of Igbo thinkers and scholars including the thoughts of the legendary Olaudah Equiano, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Mbonu Ojike, Kenneth Dike, Adiele Afigbo, Pius Okigbo, Ben Nwabueze, Chinua Achebe, Flora Nwapa and Helen Chukwuma.  As the Igbo people of southeastern Nigeria often say, “One who hears a proverb and expects the speaker to interpret same for him is underestimating his mother’s wisdom.” Now some of you might interject that this is not how it is said in your village. Remember that the village school I attended is miles away from yours. All I am saying is please get a copy of this book for there are lots of appetizing dishes of ideas, ideals, idioms, and proverbs to digest.
