USA Africa Dialogue Series - Predicting Africa’s Next Oil Insurgency: The Precarious Case of Kenya’s Turkana County

Why is it that, when it comes to Africa resouce wealth is quickly linked to conflict? When will Africa take charge of both the finding and exploitation of her own wealth? How come, the discovery of new resource wealth in the North such as the vast North Sea oil reserves has never been associated with conflict?

In the case of Turkana, the creation of Semi~autonomous county governments, the discovery of huge water reserves and the ongoing review of mineral exploitation laws, might just save the situation.
