By Chidi Anthony Opara
The flame of the flaming spear
Extinguished by the bearer,
The warrior vanquished himself.
Victory
On a platter served to the victors.
The lion
Like the house cat
Mewed
At the feet of the victors.
The lioness continued to roar.
On her hide
Darts were shot.
Her faint roars
Come from afar
Where she is caged.
Peace reigns
Yet
Victims of the ruin
Reach for the elusive justice.
With trumpets
Voices of the victims are muffled.
The ears of the world
Are filled with insincere sermons.
With their muffled voices
Victims of the ruin
Reply
To the insincere sermons.
The lion that mewed is dead.
The trumpeters
Are trumpeting eulogies,
Drowning the voices of victims
And the faint roars
Of the caged lioness.
