Dear Brethren:

Sungai Books is pleased to announce that during the 2014 Black History Month celebrations in the United States, the long-awaited second volume of Tall Drums: Portraits of Nigerians Who Are Changing America, will go to press. Authored by Dr. Ugorji O. Ugorji, the second volume is a follow-up to the seminal first volume that was published in 2004 (see www.Talldrums.com). The current offering of the series features people such as Victor Ukpolo (Chancellor of SUNO in New Orleans), Jenali Aliyu, (the designer of the Chevy Volt), Chibuzor Onwuchekwa (who piloted the World Igbo Congress toward the Mississippi Accord between the Igbo and the Ijaw National Congress), Zumunta and NIDO's Abdul Dauda, Chimamanda Adichie (novelist), Mobalaji Aluko who left the professorial ranks of Howard University to become the premier Vice Chancellor of the Federal University at Otuoke, Meme Omogbai (the COO at The Newark Museum, New Jersey), Egondu Onyejekwe (Professor of Health  Informatics) and many others. Apart from the individuals profiled, there are several illustrative photographs of Nigerians (prominent and not-so prominent) engaged in activities in the US, ranging from collegiate and professional sports, to community organizing and professorial excellence. This work is supported by a grant from the African Writers Endowment, Inc.
