USA Africa Dialogue Series - Re- Gay Brit deported from Uganda

Gay Brit deported from Uganda ( Uganda, otherwise known as" the pearl of Africa")

At this stage it's only one isolated case and just see the big splash it's making.

Is this the sort of headline that's soon going to be coming out of Nigeria, masses of Brits being deported for sexually expressing themselves in an unlawful manner in Nigeria or does the law apply only to Nigerians? If Goodluck Jonathan is serious about being elected president in 2015 he can hardly afford to antagonise some of those powerful Lords  sitting in the House of Lords  or Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International   - on whatever grounds when even at this stage we are already reading headlines such as Nigeria under threat of sanctions because of anti-gay law

It's remarkable that Uganda's former president  who was fairly anti- UK ( "His Excellency, President for Life, Field Marshal Al Hadji Doctor Idi Amin Dada, VC, DSO, MC, Lord of All the Beasts of the Earth and Fishes of the Seas and Conqueror of the British Empire in Africa in General and Uganda in Particular ") didn't get round to passing any anti-gay  laws whilst he was still presiding over Lake Victoria. That would have probably precipitated the invasion of Uganda, from Tanzania, a little earlier, because knowing the kind of reputation that Dada Amin had, he would have probably hanged and then deported gays from Great Britain, just to shower his power over the former empire.

Over here, relatively speaking, as far as LGBT is concerned all is peace and quiet . Some time ago Sizzla's Stockholm concert was cancelled because he was deemed too homophobic.

A good rule of thumb is that all men are equal and when you are in Rome it is permitted to do as the Romans do. Socrates was prosecuted for allegedly corrupting the youth and for teaching some foreign philosophy - but that was in ancient Greece (where homosexuality was part of a health practice) and not Rome or today's Nigeria
I still can't imagine  old man Jim telling his mum that he wants to get married to John, over there in our Abeokuta...
