I must express my condolence particularly to the family of Remi Adeleye whose death I have just read on the Internet. He was a graduate of the University College Ibadan, obtaining the first degree from the University of London. We were contemporaries as undergraduates in the University College Ibadan. A scholar of immense stature, he served as a commissioner in the military government of Yakubu Gowon. Indeed, that was the last time we spoke, although I still keep his phone number on my list. I wish him eternal rest and may the Lord accept his soul into paradise. May his soul rest in peace.

Gloom descended on the Department of History University of Ibadan this morning when the news of the demise of. RA Adeleye
filtered through the hallowed corridors of the Department.
Adeleye, it was reported. passed on yesterday the 10th of February 2014 after a debilitating illness that lasted for over a decade.
For over a generation,  Adeleye taught and mentored several students and scholars at Ibadan. He was a leading authority on Northern Nigerian History,  his book Power and Diplomacy in Northern Nigeria 1804 -1906 (1971) remains a locus classicus  in the study of the Sokoto Caliphate. A n eminent and brilliant scholar, Adeleye was a major  builder and pilliar of the famous Ibadan School of History.
In addition to his prodigious scholarly out put. He will also be remembered for his service to his fatherland . He was a Commissioner in the old Kawara state and was subsequently appointed a Federal Commissioner first  for Land and Housing and later for industries.
A fellow of Historical Society of Nigeria, he was married with children.
