I received the news of Dr Adeleye's death with frightening disbelief.

He taught me Northern Nigerian History at Ibadan between 1980 and 1983.
His knowledge of the subject was unrivalled and he was, without doubt, one
of the finest users of English language that I have ever met.

May his great soul rest in very perfect peace.
