"I feel highly disinclined to join issues with Mr. Sonala Olumhense for obvious reasons: He is an elderly man. Respect for elders is one of the cardinal imperatives of our traditional customs in this part of the world. Again, Mr. Olumhense is a respected senior colleague in the media industry with vast experience and exposure. More importantly, he is an alumnus of the University of Ibadan (UI) , where he studied Political Science between 1975 and 1978. An old masquerade, you may say!
However, his recent write up entitled "University of Ibadan's shameful secret" published in Guardian on Sunday of 16February, 2014 coupled with yet another one of 18August, 2013 in Sunday Trust captioned "Obasanjo, the first 419 President" in which he unwarrantedly lambasted the UI Vice Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Folorunso Adewole, when taken together, compel one to begin to interrogate the respects one has for the columnist!"
- Sunday Saanu is "the Media Assistant to the Vice Chancellor at the University of Ibadan."
Please read the rest of the long, rambling, grammatically challenged "rebuttal" to Sonala Olumhense's essay on filthy toilets at UII and wonder, just wonder where Nigeria is headed, if indeed, this man is truly the official mouthpiece of a university don. There is no hope. Abeg read. This communique is a disgrace to the name of Nigeria's premier university. This man should not be a mouthpiece for the university. No. Don't they have editors over there? Who approves the release of these "communiques"? Don't these "media specialists" have to take a writing test before getting the job? SMH
ps. And is it really true that UI spends N10 million a month on "cleaning toilets?" Those toilets? SMH

And this is the original photo-documentary:
"A former student of the University of Ibadan who graduated from there in 2008 could not believe what he saw at Mellanby Hall of residence at Nigeria's premier university.
The toilets and general condition of sanitation was an eyesore. Here we share the photos taken by Ibukun Babarinde."
