Oga Pablo,
If you say so, but i have learnt not to underestimate the depth of shallowness and intellectual infantilism of this political class in Nigeria. Honouring Lugard and Abacha? Oh Lord! I really need to balance my blood pressure because i am really hyperventilating right now.

Even my 9 year old son understands the import of the little history he has learnt.

I'm waiting patiently for Friday to arrive. If Kongi attends that ceremony, we are finished. Pessimism would have reached its logical conclusion.

I suspect Achebe will again deny the 'honour' from beyond.

Nigeria we hail thee!

Where are Hogan "Kid" Bassey (boxing), Sir Louis Nwachukwu Mbanefo (law), and Jaja of Opobo (entrepreneurship; resistance to colonialism; governance)?

Please go through this list and chuckle or weep. Supreme irony, Professor Wole Soyinka will be sharing the stage with the ghost of Sani Abacha in an "awards" ceremony. Who'd have thunk it? LOL!

Out of 100 "great people" Nigeria could only find EIGHT women, two foreign, to honor. Sick country.

British monarch and Head of the Commonwealth, Queen Elizabeth II, is to be conferred with an award on Friday, February 28, by President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan to mark Nigeria's centenary.

On the same day too, Sir Fredrick Lugard, who effected the amalgamation of the Northern and Southern Protectorates of the British Crown to form a new colonial territory and his consort, Dame Flora Louise Shaw, who named the territory 'Nigeria' would both receive posthumous awards.

At the glittering ceremony, President Jonathan would similarly present awards in 13 other categories to 97 distinguished personalities, either alive or dead, who eminently symbolize the tapestry of Nigeria's first centenary.

In a statement, the Presidential Committee on Nigeria's Centenary Celebrations said the award ceremony scheduled to hold at the Banquet Hall, State House, Abuja, would kick off at 7.00pm.  A full list of the award recipients is reproduced below.
