In a sense it can be argued that His Majesty brought it down upon himself. A common proverb has it that when you bring back dry wood from the farm you are inadvertently inviting termites into your house. If he had not convoked a National Conference to argue about Nigeria's Future (some uncharitable souls say his intention is to divert Nigerians' attention), cynical characters like myself would not have had access to the Imperial Palace, talk less of meeting and questioning his Imperial Majesty face to face and one on one.
But I am beating the gun here. Let me start from the beginning. You know the way it is. I happen to know somebody who knows another person who knows somebody else who knows yet another person who knew His Majesty from his early days and enjoyed his total confidence at least up till the point of the encounter I am about to recount. So I reckon I am about four times removed from knowing His Majesty personally which is not a minor achievement in Nigeria.
