When I was reading the horror story of "The Forest of Death in Ibadan" I thought I was reading one of those fictions of Fagunwa, like "Ogboju Ode Ninu Igbo Irunmole" translated into English as the Forest of thousand demons by Wole Soyinka. It is unbelievable that such a heinous crime was committed few kilometres to Ibadan, the seat of Oyo State government for several years without notice. The visit of His Excellency, the Governor of Oyo State is commendable, so also is the revocation of the certificate of occupancy on the land. However, I am not comfortable by the number of arrest of suspect as reported by the police. It is strange that only one person was reportedly arrested as at when the report was first published. Since the report said the forest had enjoyed patronage of the top brass of the society, it is my opinion that the police should handle the investigation more vigorously by unearthing the mystery surrounding the forest. All hands must be on deck to safe this nation from ritual killing or sacrifice, especially as our politicians and money bags look towards 2015 elections. Dayo Alao, Babcock University.

Subject: USA Africa Dialogue Series - FOERST OF DEATH IN IBADAN: response by oladimeji aborisade.

Dear Readers,
                                  FOREST OF DEATH IN IBADAN.
Ibadan is a  place of four million people.    From the time immemorial, Ibadan is best known  and credited  for accepting  everyone  regardless of creed or race who  wants a peaceful and accommodating  place to live, work, and settle.   Ibadan is free from any form of religious rancor  or intimidation. It is in  fact an African city.    No discrimination of any kind even  when Agbekoya stepped  into Ibadan politics  to redeem  the oppressed  farmers or during the operation "Wetie", political thugs,  those who did not drag themselves into the turmoil were never hurt.
Today,  one becomes concerned  about the News of  " Forest of death in Ibadan" as reported by the Guardian of Sunday, March 23, 2014  and Tribune News Papers.
It is bad that some ugly characters  should  invade Ibadan with little or no resistance  from the Authority.     Those elements who  imbibe destruction of life into their culture   must be fished out  immediately  and handled appropriately in line  with the gravity of the offence committed.
We have now reached  the cross road in our development when  the need  to register unemployed in our cities is imperative.  Governments must  make  some form  of widows   token available   on a monthly basis  to  those who register.     The need  for vigilance should be escalated.  Landlords could serve as Vigilante so also Hotels and several brothels  all around serving as hiding corner for bad people.    We must stop this illicit behavior.
Thank you,
oladimeji aborisade.
