Freeman's comments are troubling, but unsurprising. We must keep in mind that my "tribe," African Americans, have been bombarded with negative ideas about Africa for centuries.

As for marriage, some Africans still marry cousins; widowers can marry sibling/kin of deceased wife; widows can marry sibling/kin of deceased husband; men can marry multiple wives.

None of that is bad, it's cultural. In Freeman's case, the granddaughter, as I recall, is not a biological relative.
